British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC)
Various sources
The British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) is the Natural Environment Research Councils (NERC) Designated Data Centre for the Atmospheric Sciences. The role of the BADC is to assist UK atmospheric researchers to locate, access and interpret atmospheric data and to ensure the long-term integrity of atmospheric data produced by NERC projects.

British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC)
Various sources
The British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC) is a national facility for looking after and distributing data concerning the marine environment - biological, chemical, physical and geophysical data. The databases contain measurements of nearly 22,000 different variables.

Census Support
Three Census Agencies
The population censuses are a vital resource for social scientific research and policy development, providing a snapshot of demographic and social life in the UK. They are collected by three census agencies. Census support gives access to:
  • 2011 Census - aggregate data, boundary data, flow data and microdata
  • 2001 Census - aggregate data, boundary data, flow data andmicrodata
  • 1991 Census - aggregate data, boundary data, flow data and microdata
  • 1981 Census - aggregate data, boundary data and flow data
  • 1971 Census - aggregate data, boundary data

Met Office Hadley Centre observations datasets
Met Office Hadley Centre
Researchers at the Met Office Hadley Centre produce and maintain arange of gridded downloadable datasets of meteorological variables foruse in climate monitoring and climate modelling. This site providesaccess to these datasets for bona fide scientific research and personalusage only. Datasets available include global sea ice and sea surfacetemperature, global subsurface temperatures, daily gridded sea levelpressure and land temperatures.

Statistics at Defra
Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
National and official statistics relating to the environment, rural communities, food and farming. Environment statistics including air quality and emissions statistics, environmental protection expenditure survey, sustainable development indicators, digest of waste and resources statistics; Food statistics including food transport indicators; and Land management and environmental issues.

UK NAEI - National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory
Ricardo-AEA in collaboration with Aether, CEH, AMEC and SKM Enviros
The NAEI provides historic and projected emission estimates of a range of air quality pollutants and GHGs from all man-made emission sources in the UK, from 1970 to thepresent day, across a wide range of sectors including energy, industry, transport, waste, land-use change and agriculture. For each pollutant, the NAEI provides a complete picture of emissions from sources. This enables tracking of trends over time to provideinsight into GHG emissions, transboundary air pollution (acidification, eutrophication, ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter (PM)) and local airquality, and their effects on health. The NAEI includes emissions estimates of the following groups of pollutants: GHGs - carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4),nitrous oxide (N2O) and fluorinated hydrocarbons (the so-called ‘F-gases’); acidification and eutrophication pollutants and precursors to transboundary air pollution- sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx),ammonia (NH3), non-methane volatile organiccompounds (NMVOC) and carbon monoxide (CO); priority local air quality pollutants - PM (PM 10, PM 2.5 and PM 0.1), benzene, 1-3 butadiene and black carbon.

UKEOF Environmental Observation Catalogue
UK Environmental Observation Framework (UKEOF)
The UKEOF Catalogue provides access to information about environmental observations. It contains over 2200 metadata records of environmental observation activities undertaken and funded by public and third sector organisations. However, many of these records describe programs or activities, rather than actual datasets; to find dataset metadata, use the Advanced Search and select “Data Series” as “Purpose of Collection”. In 2016, there were 190 actual dataset metadata records in the catalogue. Data cannot be downloaded from this site - contact information is provided for the holding organisation.
