Abstract | The project is related to a UK Government and devolved administrations (hereafter Government) review of policy for the management of low level radioactive waste (LLW). The review is to be overseen by the national Radioactive Waste Policy Group (RWPG). This Group consists of representatives of UK Government, the devolved administrations and the main regulatory bodies for radioactive waste management. RWPG has established a Steering Group to oversee the LLW management policy review. Any existingpolicy on LLW management is set out in the 1995 White Paper `Review of Radioactive Waste Management Policy: Final Conclusions` (Cm 2919). With the new Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) being established, to commence operating from 1 April 2005, and major decommissioning and clean-up programmes for the UK`s older nuclear sites now underway, Government wishes to issue a public consultation for review of existing LLW management policy in the latter part of 2005. | |
