Objectives | This project is aligned with the Energy Technologies (Fuel Cells) call because it aims to make innovative advancements to the key stack component that controls durability in PEMFC's: the membrane itself. Currently membrane durability limits the widespread application of PEMFCs in both automotive & stationary power markets. An innovative approach of this project is to modify the membrane by incorporation of functionalised additives to significantly increase durability and hence service life. A further innovation is the tailoring and spatial engineering of membrane chemistry, structure and properties to further increase durability. Collaborating UK Companies, including UK material suppliers, will have either a direct or indirect route to supply advanced products into the expanding global fuel cell market. A core understanding of mechanisms that limit the membrane’s service life will enable UK industry to enable future product developments. | |
