Abstract | The Supergen Consortium on Biological Fuel Cells is a key theme in the SUPERGEN5 initiative under the EPSRC Infrastructure and Environment programme, and is intended to address aspects of the following key areas:The evolution of alternative energy carriers, conversion technologies and generation systems. The sustainable and efficient generation of electrical power from carbon-neutral generation systems.Aspects to be considered in moving for stepwise advance in the Consortium's target area include:New, optimised, inexpensive materials for efficient transfer of energy from biological systemsStability, longlife and resistance to chemical poisonsA step change in achievable powerModelling of the processes involved and understanding mechanismsTraining of future scientists in the target area Demonstration of biological fuel cell technolog | |
