Abstract
The final phase of the proposed project aims at combining the outcomes of all the previous technical WPs to produce a prototype aerofoil featuring integrated porous inserts that are able to deliver a substantial reduction in radiated noise without producing significant degradations in aerodynamic efficiency. The aero-acoustics benefits of the newly developed technology will be demonstrated at industrially relevant Reynolds numbers O(106) over a wide range of angles of attack. Further demonstration efforts will continuously be pursued in partnership with the industrial partners to raise our adaptive porous aerofoil concept to higher Technology Readiness Level (TRL). This work package will be led by the University of Nottingham in close collaboration of all project partners. The first task will seek to obtain a complete set of aero-acoustics and aerodynamic measurements on the baseline aerofoil as a benchmark database. In the second task an aerofoil that includes the optimised porous sections developed in the previous WPs will be manufactured. Comprehensive acoustic and aerodynamic measurements will be made to demonstrate its capability. Further tests on the baseline and porous aerofoils at TU Cottbus (Germany) will be made to provide further insight into the aero-acoustic performance. A detailed comparison between the controlled and uncontrolled wing will be the ultimate deliverable of the project
