Abstract | Using government, industrial and private archives in Britain and France, this research aims to analyse the influence of economic ideas on the development of fuel and energy policy in Britain and France since 1945. While the principles of environmental and natural resource economics have long been familiar to economists, their implementation has often been slow and partial in both government and industry. This research seeks to identify the factors which have influenced the assimilation and implementation of economic ideas in the fuel and energy sector of the French and British economies since 1945. It also has the general aim of advancing suggestions as to how the presentation of economic thinking concerning the use of scarce resources might be made more attractive and accessible to industries and governments. | |
