Abstract
1. To study the politics of development of the Russian oil industry as a pilot study of Russian economic and political development. 2. To define the changes that have taken place with respect to the oil and gas insdustry in the period 1991-1996/7. 3. To discover the political background and orientation of the political, business and ownership elites in the Russian oil industry. 4. To define the principal clusters of business political interests and their probable political and economic preferences. 5. To consider the extent to which political stability or instability is likely.
