Six main activities will be undertaken during the period of the postdoctoral fellowship: (1) Publication: five academic papers will be published, developing upon the research carried out for the fellow’s doctoral thesis (“Technology and environmental leapfrogging: three case-studies from India”). Additionally, a number of articles will be written for non-academic users (e.g., in trade journals); (2) Developing expertise: the fellow will audit relevant masters courses and seminars at the London School of Economics (LSE), particularly in the areas of development studies and regulation; (3) Pilot research project: in order to expand and consolidate on existing work, as well as to build a foundation for future research plans after the fellowship, a pilot research project will be undertaken. This will comprise a comparative study of the role of four institutions (the state, market, civil society and business) in “regulating” emissions fromenergy-intensive industries in India; (4) Teaching: a limited amount of lecturing will be carried out, backed up by specific training and monitoring exercises; (5) Networking: the fellow will seek to engage with academics and relevant non-academic users; (6) Research dissemination: seminars will be arranged to disseminate output from the fellow’s doctoral thesis and fellowship year, both in the UK and India.
