Enabling FAIR Data

FAIR-IMPACT Repository support program (EU)

The EDC was successful in applying for the FAIR-IMPACT repository support programme which was designed to help services assess and develop their approaches to FAIR data. The FAIR data principles set expectations for research data to be Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

As part of this programme we created an action plan with the following activities:

1. Refining Policy: Reviewing and updating to explicitly support FAIR. Status: policies published available from the Policy tab
2. FAIR data discovery: Machine access to metadata and data. Status: development specification enhanced
3. Supporting FAIRness:
1. Updated guidance. Status: new guide available from the Data Management tab
2. Automated metadata checking. Status: tried F-UJI tool
3. Linking content. Status: deployed
4. Measuring trust: Informal certification assurance process. Status: planned for Q4 2025

The activities were chosen to address different aspects of the service and to improve the FAIRness of our repository.

EDC's involvement in this project was funded though our UKERC grant.
