Abstract | Recent discussions with the Surrey LEA (FourS) Key Stage 3 Science coordinator have highlighted a need for additional support material in the teaching of fuel cells as part of the energy theme in the national curriculum. This is a key deficiency, especially when it is considered that fuel cells will play a vital role in energy production in the future, as a result of their high efficiencies and low greenhouse gas emissions. The aim is to develop a practical based resource that will include fuelcell kits along with an accompanying workbook. The intention will be to build 50 of these kits, which will be placed on weekly loan to schools in the Surrey region, thus ensuring that the maximum numbers of schoolchildren can gain access to the resource. The kits will be further supported by a website covering relevant material on fuel cells as well as other topics included in the energy theme of the national curriculum | |
