Abstract:
This week, UKERC Researchers have responded to a consultation and call for input on reformed national pricing. The two submissions, for DESNZ's Reformed National Pricing Delivery Plan consultation, and for Ofgem's Call for Input on Locational Charges, help to inform the ongoing debate on how best to deliver a Reformed National Pricing (RNP) electricity market arrangement that delivers continued decarbonisation while minimising costs to the consumer.
The two consultations address how the market should be structured alongside NESO's new remit for strategic energy planning to deliver a system with the right balance of generation, demand and transmission infrastructure in terms of both scale and location.
DESNZ published an RNP delivery plan describing the various reforms that make up the programme and outlining how they will be delivered.
In tandem, Ofgem has sought views on the role of locational charging and a range of options for reforming transmission charges to meet their long standing goal of incentivising investment in locations that are best aligned with long-term system needs.
